Valentine’s Day is right around the corner. But with all of the hearts and sweets around every corner, you’re probably feeling some pre-Valentines stress. If you’re single again this year, you might be wondering what to do, since you can snuggle up and take cute pics with bae. But have no fear! Galentine’s day, the only single-safe holiday is here!
Considering Galentine’s hasn’t been a holiday for the ages quite yet, it’s probably not popping off on your iCal. But just because it isn’t *official* doesn’t mean it’s not worth acknowledgment. In fact, out of all the fake holidays, it’s probably the best one to get most excited about. Why? It’s all about loving up on yourself and your LADIES!
It’s still totally fun and cute to get yourself flowers and chocolate, don’t worry. But it’s even more fun and cute to get dressed up and go out on the town with your girlfriends. Shower each other in love and affection because you are happy, complete people and don’t need a man. 😉
Here’s all the info you need to know this Galentine’s Day Season.
Okay, but what the heck is this?
According to Urban Dictionary, Galentine’s Day is traditionally celebrated on February 13th, the day before Valentine’s Day. It’s a day for celebrating the love you have for your lady friends, single or not. But, it’s also a great day to spend loving on yourself. But this is the day that you love them and yourself, more than any other day out of the year.
Who invented it?
This is the best part…. It was created by Leslie Knope from Parks and Recreation (a fictional character). In the second season, there was an episode called “Galentine’s Day” where Leslie gathered her best girl friends around and gave them some love, brunch style. “Every February 13, my lady friends and I leave our husbands and our boyfriends at home and we just come and kick it, breakfast-style,” Leslie says. “Ladies celebrating ladies.” And since, then Galentine’s Day has officially been added to everyone’s calendars.
How should I celebrate?
There’s really no wrong way to celebrate. Host your own waffle brunch like Leslie, or maybe go out for a wine and cheese happy hour. Or, go out and get mani-pedi appointments. Whatever you want to do to just hang out without any of the guys for a few hours.
Is Galentine’s Day only for the ladies?
Nope! At its gooey core, Galentine’s Day is about celebrating the people in your life that you’re closest to. But this one’s for the people who stick by your side, thick and thin. Romantic relationships come and go. But friendships are forever.
